| "Doug left us this year after an 18 month battle with Leukemia. One
of Doug's favorite activities was Rugby." "Doug was a 25 year old 2nd year law student, who graduated at the top of
his undergraduate class at Arizona State University in Finance. He was not the most gifted
athlete,
but he had such determination that he walked on as a chubby freshman and
worked to get a place on the Varsity team - a loose head prop for those of you
that know the game. He was also the treasurer of the Rugby club for 3
years.
Doug was passionate about seeing the club succeed and helped turn
the team into a legitimate college program that demanded respect.
Doug was also an
overachiever in college and he spent many hours working with his fellow
players on the Rugby team to improve their GPA's and show them they actually
could do well in college if they applied
themselves.
In memory of Doug, a
Rugby Scholarship Fund has been established at ASU. The fund will award
scholarships to an exceptional rugby player that maintains a GPA of 3.0
or better. When the fund reaches $25,000 it will
starting paying the scholarships. Our goal is to raise enough funds this
summer so that next semester someone that knew Doug would be the
first player to receive the first scholarship."
The ASU Foundation is a 503(c) organization.
